Held in Atlantic City, NJ, by the American Camp Association, this conference is the place to be for the latest in all things camp. Exhibitors, presenters, and industry people are all there to share, learn, and network from one another.
I had the opportunity to reconnect with old friends, meet new people, and attend presentations. A few highlights for me were hearing Peg Smith, CEO of ACA, introduce keynote speaker Dr. Wendy Mogel. The audience of 2000 attendees was completely engaged in Mogel’s talk about the importance of summer camp in a child’s life.
Another presentation I enjoyed was given by Jeffrey Leiken. He spoke about how today’s youth are too disconnected from older generations and offered that we should find ways to encourage them to appreciate the wisdom that elders have. Our elders can be a valuable resource to helping our youth embrace their own fears… I definitely appreciated Leiken’s perspective.
My favorite exhibitor had to be Mark Miller and his game Triangle Ball. Check it out!
Atlantic City has plenty to do. I had two great meals with friends, one at Carmine’s and the other at PF Changs. All in all it was a great few days.
I am looking forward to the 2009 camp season!
